Thanks David - no problem. A bb pistol took care of the cat problem - haven't seen him since. Lost the buff this winter to some GI illness - vet sill doesn't know what it was. We just got to more buff chicks yesterday and will get a couple of ameracuna (?) next weekend. We bought another coop a few weeks ago with plenty of room for the girls. Presently, we're going to stay away from roosters. Thanks again.

We are realitively new to chickens. We have 3 9 month old ladies whom we care for dearly. They have a nice coop that they sleep in but for the most part of the day, they are free to roam. We have had little trouble with predators (we keep a very close eye out( but yesterday, a neighbor's cat jumped on the back of one of them and pulled a few feathers. Not wanting this to happen again and wanting to give the ladies free range, I'm looking at solutions. Would adding a banty rooster help protect them? I'm concerned about adding a big rooster as he may pick on the ladies. Any suggestions? Many thanks.
